Fraud Is Getting Harder to Spot—and It’s Hitting Close to Home

Real estate fraud is becoming more sophisticated, and AI is making impersonation harder to detect. Even our office is receiving fraudulent requests to reset members’ email information or Flexmls passwords on their behalf. We see how many credit cards are hacked each month when we run MLS billing. Protect yourself, your clients, and your accounts:

  • Verify unexpected requests independently. Call a known, trusted number—not one supplied in the suspicious message.
  • Protect your login credentials. Never share passwords or verification codes, and enable multifactor authentication where available.
  • Pause before changing account information or sending money. Urgency, secrecy, and unexpected changes deserve extra scrutiny.
  • Alert our office promptly if you receive a suspicious Flexmls account request or notice an account change you did not authorize.

New fraud-prevention resources explain why real estate professionals are frequent targets and offer practical steps to prevent, detect, and report fraud. Take a few minutes to review them and share them with your team.  Explore the new fraud-prevention resources
