Governance Updates from the NAR Conference

NAR Core Standards:

Many, many meetings talked about the practical issues behind the June 2015 deadline for all local associations to meet NAR’s Core Standards or get the boot.  There was a lot of idea sharing for accomplishment of the goals in each of the six categories:

  1. Code of Ethics
  2.  Advocacy
  3. Consumer Outreach
  4. Unification Efforts and Support of the REALTOR® Organization
  5. Technology
  6. Financial Solvency

We have already jumped feet first into this mission with a new strategic plan and lots of input from our members.  It won’t be a huge shift in our mission, but new initiatives and activities will take place after the first of the new year.  Stay tuned… we will need your help!

Charitable Housing Disaster Relief Fundraiser

NAR’s REALTOR Relief Auction raises $103,000 with 100% proceeds to go to housing assistance for victims of natural disasters . Kudos to Debbie Dwyer, Berkshire REALTOR, who worked tirelessly getting donations from across the US, working the auction, doing national press and bumping up the number of items donated and total raised.  Very proud!  The Berkshire Board contributed a $250 gift certificate to Berkshire’s own Pine Cone Hill for raffle.

Sandy, 2015 Board President Steve Ray, and 2015 MLS President Mary Jane White recently returned from the NAR Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana which was held November 7-10, 2014. Here is a snapshot of the Governance Updates covered at the conference.
