Federal Aide Needed for Emergency Housing

This week, Governor Healey declared a state of emergency to spur action by the federal government to provide housing assistance for the influx of immigrants seeking asylum in the Commonwealth, occurring alongside the dire housing situation faced by our residents. Locally, the Coalition of Change is a partnership we participate in that is run by the Berkshire Housing, Berkshire Development Corp. Berkshire Regional Planning Authority, 1Berkshire, and area housing providers and town leaders is hoping to help.  Efforts include a statewide crisis response team, investing in Welcome Centers and wraparound services, making deeper investments in homelessness prevention programs, and preserving access to Emergency Assistance shelter.
