Not a year goes by when we don’t stop and remember where we were in the dark days that followed the September 11th terrorist attacks, so close to home.  Some may also remember the REALTOR organization sprang into action, raising funds immediately to offer assistance in securing temporary housing for those directly affected in the disaster areas. Locally, the Berkshire Board of REALTORS organized the largest tag sale ever, held in the former cinema center plaza with hundreds of donations and shoppers.  We did this to support fund that would become the REALTOR Relief Foundation, and we have supported it ever since.

Within hours of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the NAR Executive Leadership team worked to secure contributions to aid those impacted. More than $8.4 million poured in to provide urgent housing-related assistance for those struggling in the aftermath. Funds were raised and distributed within 100 days to ensure families remained sheltered.  Since then, over $53 million has been raised and donated throughout the US to help provide emergency housing during times of natural and national disasters.
